Great Easter Sunday

The weather was the most beautiful so far this year, sunny and in the 70s. We had a sizable turnout for the pre-worship breakfast. Not only many of our members and usual visitors, but some guests came too. The fellowship hall was literally abuzz with conversations. It was great to see Norma and Natalie back with us. Oscar came. Laura brought her sister and other guests.

Anita performed some very special, and moving, music to mark the Resurrection of Jesus. After that, Kathy did the Kids’ Time. We all sang happy birthday to Blaise.

Teen Study: Starting next Sunday, the Pastor will be holding a teen study group for the Sunday School period.

Gifts & Prayer for Soldiers

The ladies boxed up all the donated gift items (snack foods, pencils/paper, etc.) and had the boxes ready to ship overseas to the soldiers we know. Before they went out, Pastor Jon called folks up to pray over the gift boxes and for our soldiers in particular.

It was great to have the Scarpa’s, Brandts and Rebecca back with us for worship. Others were away traveling, but there were plenty of voices on hand to sing praises.

Care-Package Cache

Members, friends and family of LBC gathered up a nice pile of gifts to send to our soldiers overseas. We were given a list of things that soldiers like to receive (and were okay to ship to them). By Sunday morning, there was more than the box would hold. The ladies’ group will be creating the individual boxes to ship to the various soldiers associated with the church.

We had a nice service today, with great participation and discussion.

Praise beyond the key

Even with some folks away or traveling, the sanctuary felt full of voices of praise. With Tanya away, we sang to Kathy’s guitar for accompaniment. The right key seemed elusive today, but we sang with joy just the same. Clyde had a fun kids’ message demonstration about the armor of God (Eph. 6), with the Shield of Faith. Pastor Jon’s message from Roman’s 12 challenged us to not treat Sunday’s as mere spiritual pep rallies, from which we return Monday’s to just living in the world.

After the service, there was a lot of talking and fellowship, such that a few had little time for lunch before the afternoon service.

Remember to pray for Hannah’s recovery from having her tonsils out.

Teen Challenge Sings

For this Sunday’s service, we hosted the men’s choir from the local Teen Challenge center. The program has been for men of all ages, not just teens, for many years. This choir had men from 21 to 49. (Photos are on the LBC Facebook page)

Dominic gave his testimony to start things off. He had been a member of Teen Challenge many years ago. He told of his very troubled youth, getting saved, and how the Teen Challenge program helped him develop a real relationship with Christ and put the old patterns away. In between songs, a few members of the choir gave their own testimonies. They too, told of lives gone wrong as they relied on drugs or alcohol to fill their emptiness. One of them said, “but Christ is still resurrecting lives.” Through Christ, they have found the strength He promised them to become new creatures.

We were all blessed by their singing and powerful testimonies. God’s power to change people is amazing.

After the service, we held a spaghetti dinner for everyone. There was, naturally, a ton of great food. Even more special, was the continuing testimonies, one-on-one, at the tables as the choir members share still more of what Christ has done for them.

Full pews, lots of kids

This Sunday saw many a full pew. A few were away for the weekend, but Jodi and her family filled a pew, Miles had a pew full of kids with him, and the Delveccio family is a pew-full on their own. “Auntie” Clyde had quite crowd for her Xtreme Raingear demonstration. The classrooms are beginning to fill up!

Christmas Holiday Dinner

This past Saturday, we had our annual holiday dinner at the church. The turnout was good and we got a few treats too. Matt was in from the west coast. Anita brought both Felicia and Bruce. (he sure is getting tall). Vernon was there with Claudette too. There was much fellowship, singing and food. It was a very warm way to celebrate the birth of our Savior.

Ongoing Thanks

We had plenty to be thankful for, on this Sunday after Thanksgiving. Most of our members were present, as were most of our regular visitors. We even had some new visitors. An extra blessing was seeing Joe. G and his wife Dorothy back with us. He is recovering well from his surgery. All these people meant a bumper crop of kids too!

There were sixteen of them to watch Clyde’s show-and-tell with her grandmother’s giant Christmas candle decoration. Add in two babies and we had 18 little ones! It was a very blessed day.

In the afternoon service, we watched the first half of Passion of the Christ.

Reflections of Thanks

On this Sunday before Thanksgiving, the pastor asked what we were thankful for. Many spoke up with ways they’ve seen God bless them. As a church, we are thankful for the freedom we still have to worship without oppression. We are thankful for the many guests and visitors that join us each Sunday. It was great to see Adam and the Martins and Dom’s In-Laws, Gordon & Sue, etc. etc. We are thankful for all the beautiful children we see each Sunday, such as this adorable bunch below.

Great Missions Day

We had a very nice turnout this morning for our Missions Sunday. Most of our members, and regular visitors were here, as well some new visitors too. Altogether, our little church assembled 11 christmas gift shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.

The pastor called forward those who would like to pray over the success of our gift boxes. Quite a few came forward, and prayers were offered up that these gifts might brighten a child’s life, let them know they are loved, and more importantly, that Jesus loves them.

Following the prayer, we watched a movie about the mission of Shepherd’s Home. A collection was taken for Shepherd to add to the snowmen collection that members had been doing since early October. The money will be sent to help the home buy Christmas gifts for the residents.
