Rainy Weekend

Despite all the gray and rainy weather, the teens had their game night at the church and had a great time. During Sunday School we discussed the thorny issue of qualifications for a pastor and prior divorce, etc. At the regular service, attendance was about average.  We collected the snowmen for Shepherd’s Home and collected $300! That will provide Christmas gifts for three of the 180 residents. That’s a definite praise.

The afternoon service began the course called “The Way of the Master.” The goal is to equip us better for sharing the gospel with people around us.

Announcments:

Oct. 2,3: NRBFC Conference in Enfield, CT

Missionary & More

Today, Clyde had a good sized crowd of kids for her “Kids Time.” Katherine, Abi, Makenna, Nathaniel, Matthew, Devin, Isabel and Riley. In the pews, we had Bonnie Kilby visiting from Florida, Marge and Dave T., too.

In the afternoon service, Anna Beth Wivell spoke to us about her upcoming mission work with Bibles International. She’s not been assigned to a specific team yet, but will be working to translate the Bible into one of the 190 languages in Africa which still do not have the Word of God. Her skill is in ancient greek and hebrew. She will help the translating teams stay true to the meanings in the ancient manuscripts.

Men’s Breakfast

Once again, the LBC Men’s Breakfast was the scene of much good food (by “guy” standards) and good fellowship. True to tradition, cooking the bacon set off the smoke alarm.  Dan cooked up cheese omelets for the hungry men. Mickey provided his famous biscuits and sausage gravy.  There was a lot of the usual guy-talk — cars, GPS units, work and baseball.  It was great to see Vernon and his friend Luis come by before they went fishing.  David brought his dad. Austin (the hungry college student) was on hand to chat techno-goodies and chow down on a filling hot breakfast. It was a great time of fellowship.

Absences Filled

This Sunday there were many members away traveling.  The pews were far from looking empty, though. God brought in extra visitors. Some were regulars, like Norma & Natalie, Skip & Diane, Adam,  Joe & Dorothy with Elaine and her three boys. Some were new faces. Christine brought in her daughter Emily, Dom & Jodie, and we even had the Gallo family visit us from St. Jude’s.

Busy Autumn Schedule

This Sunday, in the adult Sunday School, we continued going through LBC’s Covenant and group doctrinal statements. Clyde had some extra kids today for the kids’ message, which was entertaining and the Pastor did not get hurt. (always a good thing). We heard that the Meteviers and Tori may be coming home today or tomorrow. Answered prayers.

We had many of our regular guests with us again for worship. The list of autumn announcements is getting long. Looks like it’s shaping up to be a busy season.
