Snow Fun and Reprieve

For a change, it did NOT snow this Sunday. As a result, attendance was up. It was good to see the Gioraurds again, and Jodi Scarpa’s folks. Natalie brought a friend too.  During Clyde’s kids’ time, she showed photos of the fun they had at Camp Northfield’s Arctic Blast.

Here are the teen girls and the bathtub snow sculpture. Pastor Roe is taking a snow-bath in it.  Their verse was from Isaiah, about God washing us white as snow. It was a great time of fun and fellowship.

Annual Business Meeting

In lieu of the afternoon service, the members met for the church’s annual business meeting. In addition to the usual reports, a couple of adjustments were voted to the constitution, and officers elected. A slightly expanded annual budget was discussed and approved. Everyone at LBC is looking forward to busy and productive 2009.

Announcements:

Dave & Amy Bryon: Feb 8th — Rescheduled from Dec. Speaking morning and afternoon. Luncheon too.

More Snow, More Members !

It is becoming apparent that God likes snow. For the past several Sundays, He’s brought us several inches more.   This Sunday, there was 6 to 8″ on the ground by Sunday School time. It kept snowing most of the day. As a result, some of our members and regular guests opted not to take chances on the roads (they were pretty bad in places).  However, for those who made it through, there was much to praise His name about.  Before the afternoon service, we held a quick business meeting to vote in four new members. (photos below)  David and Lindsey Frank, and Sean and Tanya Brandt. Welcome! We look forward to doing the Lord’s work with you.

Men’s Breakfast & Couch Conquest

This morning, several of the men of the church met for the first of the regular monthly men’s meetings.Enoch walked with God (Genesis 5). Pastor Jon emphasized the need for spiritually strong men who will, like Enoch, walk with God to make the church itself strong. The men formed smaller groups of accountability partners. They’re to call each other at least once a week, to encourage a devotional life and pray for each other.  The group plans to meet at roughly the same time next month. A firmer time will be announced later.

The On-going Saga of the Couch

After the men’s breakfast meeting, most of them went over to Lois’s apartment to help her move. Delores and Clyde were already at the apartment, helping box up the loose items.  The men carried down all of the big furniture items, including the monster couch which was such a beast to get into the apartment in the first place.  With furniture expert Vernon Kilby on hand, and two strong young men (Pastor Jon and Sean), the couch had met its match.  They had it out of the old apartment and into the new one in short order. Photo below is the couch entering the new ground floor apartment.

Snow Challenged

We got yet another snowstorm, starting Saturday night. By Sunday School time, we had 8 or 9 inches on the ground. But, Ben had the parking lot plowed out, and Sean helped with the sidewalk. The roads were pretty slushy and slick.  As a result, attendance was understandably down a bit.  Nonetheless, a some member families and regular visitors braved the elements to sing Him praises.

The Byrons, who were scheduled to speak today, had to cancel. They had even more snow back in Northfield.  An alternate date for them to come visit us is in the works.  Watch the “Announcements” in future posts.

New Year of Worship

This first service of the new year had many of our traveling members back with us, and quite a few of our regular visitors with us too. Clyde had quite a few kids for her story time up front. It was good to see Norma and Natalie back. Adam brought his sister and her boyfriend. Andrea was back with her boys, though Miles was home sick. Ralph was on hand, though Marge was sick. We had the Abbotts and the Franks with us too.

Since there was an advisory board meeting in lieu of the afternoon service, most folks went home for lunch (and the rest of the day).  The advisory board discussed agenda items for the upcoming Annual Meeting. Check the bulletin board for nominations and text for a couple of proposed changes to the church’s constitution.
