Memorial Day Cookout

Following the morning worship service, we held our Memorial Day cookout for the church family and friends.  There was plenty of food on hand. The church’s accomplished cooks brought in many nice treats. (It was not a stay-on-your-diet-day)

After the feasting, the games began.  There was a beanbag toss, and Bocce Ball which somehow morphed into cross-country Bocce with balls being played through the woods. There was a nice campfire in the firepit, which took some of the chill off the early afternoon. Later, the sun came out and the games continued.

LaNaya and Felicia practiced some gymnastic moves. There was a sack race for the younger kids, although Isabel did not think being in a sack was a good idea at all. Vernon and David won the first game of horseshoes, but Ben and the Pastor came on in the second.  It was a great afternoon of fellowship and fun.

Feeding the Hungry

Over the past couple weeks, folks have been sorting and storing all the food delivered by the post office workers.  It not only stuffed our usual food pantry cupboard to the max (see photo at left), but filled those two long book shelf units and there are still boxes of food stashed back in classroom 3.  As the Lord supplies the bounty, so were we able to provide.  Since the big delivery, Pastor Jon reports 15 families having come for some of the food. He makes sure each family has a Bible and hears the gospel offer. After all, our aim is not simply to sustain their bodies, but preserve their souls as well.

Sunny Mother’s Day

After a week of gray rainy days, God gave mothers the gift of sunshine for Mother’s Day. Some of our regulars were away visiting their mothers, but there were plenty of voices on hand to praise Him. There were plenty of mothers on hand to receive the little Mother’s Day gifts from the church. Abigail and Makenna teamed up to hand out the gifts. Quite a few fond memories were shared about folks’ mothers, and a few very funny stories too.

After the service, some family photos were taken for the upcoming church directory. There was no 1pm service, so the many moms could be taken out for a nice lunch.

Pantry MegaBoost

On Saturday, postal workers delivered many many bags of food to LBC for our food pantry. The local post office holds an annual food drive for the hungry. They collected a truck-load of food. The post office distributes its collection to local food pantries. LBC’s food pantry got on their list. The result was enough bags of food to cover six of our dinning room tables. The church ladies were meeting at the church Monday evening for a night of prayer (Nursing home night was rescheduled), so they will begin sorting the bounty. Clearly, some more shelves will be required to handle this “Shower of Blessings.”

3 Fontaine Grandbabies

Today’s service had the special blessing of having all three “Fontaine Girls” here with their new babies. Kathy is showing off little Westin (who slept through the whole photo-op deal), Pam with little Reuben and Jamie with Jordyn — who is celebrating a first birthday.

Church Clean-Up Day

This Spring’s annual Church Clean-Up Day brought out a good crew of workers. There was the usual outdoor work of sprucing up the flower beds and bark mulch areas. Ben and his trusty chainsaw headed up an anti-brambles crew that hacked back the scrubby thorns along the driveway. Inside, there were classroom bulletin boards to change and, of course, windows to be washed.  It was a great day of working together to be good stewards of the building and land God has blessed us with.

Great Teen Weekend

Clyde and Laura went to Camp Northfield to help out with their Teen Weekend. They had a great bunch of girls in their cabin. Clyde especially liked the “extreme sports” of pseudo-sumo wrestling.

But our dynamic duo were not all fun and games, they also enjoyed helping out in the kitchen. A camp full of hungry teens can go through a lot of food. - They had a great time and look forward to next year.
