Miles Baptized

Miles and Andrea have been attending LBC for several months. Miles had been saved many years earlier, but had not been baptized. He felt convicted of the need to demonstrate obedience to his Lord, so came forward for baptism.  He gave his testimony first, which was at times emotional for him. He came from a difficult childhood in a single-mother home. She was an addict and an alcoholic. Miles left home, dropped out of school, and quickly got onto the wrong side of the law. While he was away and in trouble, his mother got saved and turned her life around. She witnessed to him tirelessly, but it was the testimony of her changed life that made the deepest impression. At rock-bottom in his young life, Miles prayed for forgiveness and turned his life over to Christ.  The road was still rough and full of challenges, but he knew God was with him.  Now married and a father of four, he can see how much God has done in his own life. Baptism was an important symbol of his pledge to be obedient to Christ.  Ben performed the baptism.  It was a wonderful day.

At the Quarterly Business Meeting, the church voted to authorize the trustees to spend out of the Unallocated Fund, if necessary, to complete the bathrooms project. The worst-case scenario is that things run about $5,000 more than the Bathroom Fund currently has in it. Unallocated has enough to cover the 5k, so the vote was unanimous. Best case scenario, is that things come in better and the overage won’t be needed. Either way, the Lord has provided.

Fathers’ Day

We had a lighter congregation this Father’s Day. Many families were out of town, spending time with their fathers. Nonetheless, there were plenty of us on hand to share some fun (mostly embarrassing) stories about our fathers. Payback for the funny mom stories on Mother’s Day.  The kids handed out some gifts to the men of the church.

For Clyde’s kid’s message, she donned an old flannel shirt that used to belong to her father. She described the warmth and comfort her father gave her, drawing the parallel to the blessings our heavenly father can — and wants to — bestow.

This Sunday, we missed having the Frank’s with us. They’ve moved down to Alabama. We miss you already, David and Lindsey.

There was no afternoon service, following the pattern of Mother’s Day. Families were free to take dad out to lunch and enjoy his day.
