Full House (of Praise)

It was a sunny, balmy November day in Londonderry. We had our many visitors with us again, but with added family members too. Add in a new visitor and his two children, and the pews were looking full. There were many voices lifting the hymns today!

Clyde, (super-fan of Thanksgiving & the Pilgrims) shared with the kids her most recent treasure — An Edward Winslow action figure!! Some of the kids greeted the news with a knowing “Oh, Mrs. Kilby…” look, while others mused that someone actually makes Winslow action figures. Who knew ?!

The afternoon service picked up where the morning message left off, exploring the concept of spiritual gifts within the church, not just our recognizing them, but applying them.

Guests Galore

At this morning’s worship service, we welcomed some of our returning guests back with us. We were also blessed by some friends of Mrs. Anderson who were visiting from South Carolina. The guest influx offset having a couple of families away for the weekend.

In lieu of the afternoon service, we held our 3rd quarter business meeting. There weren’t many decisions needing to be made, but there were a few. A report on the bathrooms project showed that it had come in under projections, which is a blessing. Besides that, we actually ended up with more than we expected (such as the washtub sink in the corner classroom).

Remember that the shoebox gifts for Operation Christmas Child are due November 14th. Bring yours in sooner if you can.

Filling In

Pastor Roe was in Michigan this weekend, to be with his father through his heart surgery. Despite short notice (his father’s heart attack was Friday), several church members were ready to step in and keep the work going.

Micheal lead the adult Sunday School, continuing the topic of overcoming discouragement. Clyde had her usual kids’ message and introduced us all to her baby grapefruit tree named Barbara. :-)  Mickey took over the duties as song leader. David filled in at the pulpit with a sermon about being “light” and not shadows to the lost. It was a blessing everyone actively helping in the work.

Announcement:

Quarterly Business Meeting — Nov 1, at 1pm.

Teen Challenge – Nov 1, (still tentative) Men’s Choir and testimonies

Nursing Home — Nov 2, 6:30 at the home.

Coming Together

It was a beautiful peak-color day in southern New Hampshire. Many of our traveling families were back with us, and a returning guest too.  Clyde started things off with some acting auditions. The kids took turns trying to express different emotions with facial expressions: anger, surprise, happiness, etc. All of this was to set up her lesson on the difference between happiness and joy (true joy). Pastor continued his study in Romans 12 for the worship service and followed up with deeper study of Romans 12:1 in the afternoon. At lunch, it was great to have the additional fellowship. There was plenty of food to share with those who didn’t bring a lunch.

Announcements:

Church Hike — Oct 17, meet at the church at 8 a.m. Bring a sack lunch. Dress in layers. Everyone welcome.

Ladies Meeting — Oct 24 @ New Boston. See Delores for details.

C.L.O.T. Breakfast

This month’s men’s group meeting (Collectively Living Out the Truth) featured a hearty breakfast of scrambled eggs (cooked by Austin), Micky’s famous biscuits and gravy and Sean’s french toast bake.

There was much more to it than just great food. There was great fellowship. The text covered was 1 Corinthians 1:10-17, about the need to remember that Christ is the head of the church, not a person. There was much lively discussion. Pastor Roe reminded those present that the online forum will be a good place to continue those discussions.

Rachel Browning: Food and Fun

We had a great feast on Saturday night, before Rachel Browning did her first presentation. As usual, there was plenty of food. (actually, enough to cover lunch on Sunday too)  We had several guests. Some were from the school Clyde teaches at. We also had Dick and Carol Casper stop in.

Rachel put on quite a show. She had several of her puppet friends with her. The kids (and adults) were well entertained. Each puppet skit had a clear biblical message. On Sunday, she had more puppets for the Sunday School hour. During the regular worship hour, she told a story while doing a chalk drawing. Everyone enjoyed her presentation. We all shared a meal with her (and her mom) again at lunch.

Lots o’ Little Ones

Now that summer is over and folks are back into the school-year routine, many of our families are back. This means lots of little ones going up front for Mrs. Kilby’s story time. This time, the balancing dragonfly prop was the huge hit. Between the Roe kids, the Martin kids and our wee girls (Isabel, Grace and Riley) and our “big girls” (Natalie and Abi), there was quite a row of little faces.  It was great to see.  We had a couple of vocal babies in the back too, who didn’t want to be overlooked (Westin and Alexandra).

Labor Day Weekend

Many of our members and regular visitors were out of town this weekend, taking advantage of the last hurrah of summer. The weather was beautiful in New Hampshire for those who stayed. This was the final call for the memory verse of the last several months. Pastor called for one volunteer to recite from memory, Romans 5:1-21.  Susan was eager to try. She made it all the way through with only a couple of prompts. There was no afternoon service.

Flushed with success

Sorry for the pun. Our new bathrooms are functional! They’re not done quite yet. The hot water still needs to be fixed and inspected. But, the partitions are up and the toilets flush.  We’ve talked about newer-bigger bathrooms for years, but this week they became reality.

Hats off to Ben for all his diligent hard work and his helper Josh. A big shout of thanks to the Meteviers for their generous gift that got our Bathroom Fund off to a great start.

Special Guests: The Novys!

We had a special treat this Sunday. Pastor and Jan Novy dropped by for our Sunday services. They caught everyone by surprise.  It was not easy for Pastor Jon to get everyone quieted down in their seats to start Sunday School. There were just too many conversations and getting caught up. It had been over a year since the Novy’s moved back south to Florida.

Pastor Novy got to hear Tanya play the piano in our worship service. She was the piano player he always wished he could have had.  There was plenty of extra food on hand for lunch time, so the Novy’s joined us for lunch. Even that hour of conversation was not enough to get caught up. Pastor Jon had to herd us back in for the afternoon service too.  It really was great seeing the Novy’s again.
